Love Lesson
-(June, 2000)
Joy - What
is it really? The dictionary defines joy as "Intense and especially
ecstatic or exultant happiness. A source or an object of pleasure
or satisfaction. A synonym for joy is pleasure."
Wow! Sounds
great!!! Sounds like something we all want to experience. Maybe
we all try to have joy and happiness in our lives only to find
it all too fleeting - here one minute, gone the next. What happens
so that our joy and happiness don't seem to last? Could it be
so transient because our joy is based on the circumstances of
life? Well, we all know about those circumstances of life - one
minute they are good, another they are unbearable. How then can
we have any joy in life? Are we doomed to a roller-coaster of
joyful highs only to find ourselves at the bottom of the track
of sadness?
The Bible
says there is a place of joy that is consistent, stable and not
fleeting. It is not based on how I feel or on how life is treating
me. In Psalm 16:11, the Bible says that there is fullness of joy
in the presence of the Lord. It says that God makes known to us
the path of life and if we follow it to His presence, He will
fill us with joy. It goes on to say that at His right hand are
pleasures forevermore - eternal pleasures.
Can you imagine?
Joy that doesn't fade? Pleasures that will last for all eternity?
How could anyone pass up such an offer? And yes, this is God's
offer to us…just take the path of life and we can be in His presence
for all eternity - experiencing joy and pleasure forever more.
That certainly makes me want to know where that path is - the
path of life to His presence. How about you?
Well, the
Bible says that Jesus is the way and the truth and the life and
that no man can come to the Father except through Him and through
what He did for us. So there you have it - the Road Map to God.
If you were to unroll that road map right now you would see Jesus
Christ on the cross dying for your sins, paying the price of death
for the guilt of your sins. Then you would see Jesus Christ resurrected
from the dead - given new life - the life He has gained He now
wants to give to you.
All you must
do is say "Yes, Jesus, I receive your life. I thank you for paying
the price of my sins because I know I couldn't have paid it. The
debt was more than I could ever pay. You didn't owe my debt, but
You paid it for me. Thank You. I now want to know and experience
Your presence and be filled with Joy forever more!!!"
I hope you
have shared your heart with God. He loves you more than you can
know. Receive His love, in Jesus.
Love, Patty
